Aina E. Momquist
Aina Elise Momquist, 90, died peacefully at her home, in the care of her children on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Aina was born February 21, 1922 in Alafors, Sweden. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in Sweden and also at Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago retiring May 1, 1971. On May 29, 1971 until 2001 she owned and operated the Scandinavian Boutique in Homewood, IL.
On August 21, 1954 she married Stig Gustav Momquist in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1999. Aina was very active in Chicago’s Swedish Community. She was the founder of Linnea; South Suburb Swedish Women; and a member of the Swedish American Museum; American Daughters of Sweden; Vasa Order of America, Bessemer Lodge; Swedish American Heritage Society of West Michigan. Her love for needlework led to the founding of the Homewood Embroiderers Guild. In Michigan she was a member of the River Valley Garden Club and Harbert Community Church.
Survivors include her children, Anna Maria (Ken) Adair of Homer Glen, Illinois and David Momquist of Tulsa, Oklahoma and grandchildren, Kurt (Laura) Adair and Camilla Adair.
Cremation will take place. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Harbert Community Church. Interment of her ashes will be in Starrkar, Sweden next to her husband Stig.
