Bruce E. Johnson
Bruce E. Johnson, 70, died peacefully Saturday, September 7, 2013 at his home in Three Oaks, Michigan with the White Sox game on while anticipating the Notre Dame game.
Bruce was born March 23, 1943 in Michigan City, Indiana to Robert E and Betty (Perham) Johnson. He was a talented athlete and member of the Championship Basketball Team from Three Oaks High School, graduating in 1961. He continued his education at Valparaiso University, attending on a football scholarship. Bruce served his country in the National Guard and was employed for 30 years as an industrial engineer at Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor. He was a member of the Randall Couchman American Legion Post 204 of Three Oaks and the Elks BPOE Valpo Lodge #500. He loved to golf and was a member of the Chikaming Country Club and the Valparaiso Country Club. Bruce continued to enjoy a variety of sports his entire life, watching his favorite teams which also included the Detroit Lions. He cherished sharing a cold one with his friends while watching sports, telling jokes, and remembering the good old days.
Survivors include his children, who lovingly remember him as their coach and cheerleader as they pursued their own life goals, Kirstin Ayn (John) Riley Jr of Three Oaks; Robin (Adrian) Harvey of New Buffalo, Michigan; Erin Johnson of Oak Park, Illinois and Eric (Betsy) Johnson of King George, Virginia; their mother, Mary Ann Johnson of New Buffalo, who continued to be Bruce’s loving companion; his grandchildren, John III, Hope, Clara, Adeline and a grandson coming any day; and his sister, Rita (Andrew) Veres of Orange Park, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Julia Ayn Riley.
Cremation will take place. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks with Mr. Garry Lange as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday October 3, 2013 at the funeral home.
