George Payne, 86, of Three Oaks, Michigan died peacefully Friday evening, January 31, 2014 at his home.
George was a resident of Three Oaks his entire life, born on August 3, 1927 to Gallie and Gertrude (Synold) Payne. It was while he was an M.P. stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army at the end of WWII that he met Maria “Mary” B. Keller. They were married on October 13, 1948 in Munich, Germany. They lived in Three Oaks, in the home George built. He was employed as a carpenter working for himself and also at Big C. Lumber Company. George lovingly cared for Mary when she became ill until her death on May 16, 2002.
George is survived by his sister Marjorie Stephens of Selma, Alabama, many nieces and nephews, Mary’s family in Germany, friends, and caregivers. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willis, James, and Gerald.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, Michigan with Mr. Garry Lange as celebrant. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.
