Hannah D.M. McKelvy, age 93 of Bridgman, passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Woodland Terrace. Hannah was born on May 29, 1921 in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania to Kenneth and Mary (Sutterly) Macfarlan. She graduated in 1939 from Lower Merion High School.
She had known her husband James Scovel McKelvy since childhood, and they married on September 2, 1949 at All Saints Church in Wynnewood PA. He preceded her in death in 1985.
After their marriage, the couple moved to the Chicago area where they made their home. Hannah was a teachers Aide with the Chicago Public School system from 1970 until the late 1980’s, was very active with the Episcopal Church, the Boy & Girl Scouts, and the Mary Bartelme Group Home for Girls. She was also a world traveler, an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and a friend to all.
Hannah is survived by her children Charley (Natalie) of Harbert, MI., Donald (Cindy) of Parrish, Florida, and Missy (Stu) Wright of Chicago. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Jake (Abby), Sara (Tom), Annie, Nate (Lindsey), Meg (Marty), and Jim. She was preceded in death by a sister Molly Hope and brother Kenny Macfarlan.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Donnellan Funeral Home in Chicago on Tuesday, June 10th from 4-9:00 p.m.. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. from The Church of the Holy Nativity, 9300 S. Pleasant Ave. Chicago. The Reverend Paula Durren will lead a Celebration of Life Service for Hannah at Redbud Court in Woodland Terrace, 8850 Red Arrow Highway, on Friday, June 13th at 2:00 p.m. (EDT)
